Group Therapy 101: Foundations, Facilitation Skills, and Common Pitfalls

$45.00

Group therapy is a powerful and effective modality, yet many clinicians report feeling underprepared to facilitate groups after graduate training. This two-hour continuing educational workshop provides a foundational introduction to group therapy theory and practice for clinicians interested in beginning or strengthening their group facilitation skills.

Participants will explore key differences between common types of therapy groups, including process-oriented, psychoeducational, skills-based, and peer support groups, and examine the clinical purpose and structure of each. The training will review core components of effective group facilitation, including establishing safety and group agreements, fostering cohesion, managing boundaries, and attending to group process alongside content. Participants will also be introduced to basic group interventions.

Common mistakes and challenges in group facilitation will be discussed, along with strategies to navigate these dynamics ethically and effectively. The workshop will include a brief experiential or "fishbowl"-style component to support learning through observation and reflection, with attention to the facilitator's role and responsibilities.

This training is designed as a foundational introduction to group therapy and may serve as a starting point for clinicians interested in further education and training in group facilitation.
