How Group Therapy Supports Recovery: Connection, Healing, and Growth
For women near Marietta, Georgia, seeking support on their recovery journey.
Recovering and abstaining from alcohol and other drugs is rarely easy. Folks need different supports and resources to quit and maintain abstinence, ranging from detox, higher levels of care like residential programs, outpatient services, and more. I’ve worked with clients at different levels of treatment and at different stages in their recovery. In my experience, the consistent key to sustained, meaningful recovery is connection and sober social support.
You can do this through 12-step and other peer based support groups, individual therapy, working with a recovery coach, finding local sober clubs, and more — but today I want to talk about group therapy. Group therapy offers a unique opportunity to connect with others in recovery, share experiences — successes, setbacks, and challenges — and develop skills for lasting recovery. Whether you’re newly sober or years into your journey, a process group like Thriving in Recovery can provide the support and connection you’re looking for.
What Is Group Therapy?
Group therapy is a therapeutic setting where a small group of individuals meets regularly with a trained therapist to share experiences, explore emotions, and work toward personal goals. Unlike individual therapy, group therapy brings the added benefit of peer support.
In Thriving in Recovery, women come together in a safe, nonjudgmental space to process the ups and downs of recovery, build emotional resilience, and explore new ways of relating to themselves and others.
The Benefits of Group Therapy in Recovery
